Youth Tackle Football with the Oakmont Jr Vikings
Oakmont Jr. Vikings Youth Football gives kids a chance to learn the game in a safe, structured, and positive environment. We focus on fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence so players can grow on and off the field.
Season Overview
Some details change year to year, but here’s the typical rhythm of our season:
- Clinics begin: March 25th, 2026
- Practices begin: July 14th, 2026.
- First games: generally start in August.
- Season ends: usually by November, depending on playoffs.
Teams generally practice 4 times per week during the season, with games on weekends. The exact practice schedule is set by each head coach once teams are formed.
Registration and Fees
Registration is open!
- Registration fee: $300 per player.
You can register online using our secure registration form. Spots may be limited by age group, so earlier registration helps guarantee your player’s place on a team.
What’s Included
Your registration fee helps cover:
- League and insurance costs
- Field use and game-day costs (officials, field markings, etc.)
- Use of key football equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, game pants, and game jersey, depending on available inventory)
- Coaching staff training and background checks
Exact included items may vary slightly by season as we upgrade and replace equipment, but we always aim to keep out-of-pocket costs predictable for families.
Volunteer Requirement
14 volunteer hours are required per player. A $400 deposit check will be collected at registration and held until the end of the season. The deposit is fully refunded if ALL hours are completed. A buy-out option is available for $400 per player.
Equipment Return
Charge of $500 for football equipment that is not returned at the end of the season.
Equipment: Buy or Borrow
We want every child who wants to play to be able to play, regardless of whether they already have gear.
- Borrowed gear:
- Many players borrow helmets, shoulder pads, and pants from the program for the season.
- Borrowed items must be returned at the end of the season in good condition. Failure to return items may result in an equipment fee. See registration page.
- Personal gear:
- Families who prefer to purchase their own pads or helmets may do so, as long as they meet league safety standards.
- We strongly recommend consulting with the program before purchasing a helmet so it meets current safety requirements.
- Items every player will need to provide:
- Cleats suitable for football
- Mouthguard
- Practice jersey
- Water bottle
We will provide an updated equipment checklist before practices begin so families know exactly what is needed.
Why Youth Football Matters
Youth sports do more than keep kids busy after school:
- Builds confidence by teaching kids to set goals and work hard to reach them.
- Teaches teamwork and communication—every position has a role, and players learn to rely on one another.
- Encourages healthy habits, like regular exercise and time outdoors.
- Gives kids a community, new friendships, and positive role models in their coaches.
Football can be especially helpful for kids working on focus, resilience, and handling both wins and losses with character.
Safety and Coaching
Player safety is always a top priority:
- Coaches receive training on proper tackling techniques and practice structure.
- We follow league rules for contact, conditioning, and heat safety.
- Age and weight guidelines are used to create fair and safe matchups.
More detailed safety information will be shared before the season starts, and parents are always welcome to ask questions.
